Meshell holds a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University (zoology), a Bachelor of Arts from Midway College (education), and both a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Management from Sullivan University. She earned her Ph.D. in Management from Sullivan University.

Meshell currently works in higher education administration to aid students in reaching their career goals but has also worked as a park ranger and a substitute teacher. She also owns a small reptile breeding business. Additionally, she serves on the Parent Advisory Council for the Office of Children with Special Healthcare Needs and serves as President of Kentucky Associate of Veteran Education Certifying Officials, an organization she helped found.

She grew up in Orange County, CA, briefly lived in the states of Washington and Colorado, and currently resides in Louisville, KY. She married her high school sweetheart, and they have two children and a small zoo: 2 dogs, 2 cats, and numerous snakes and lizards.
