Direct Loan Disbursements for Part-Time Students

Beginning with applicable federal implementation dates, July 1st, 2026, changes to federal financial aid regulations may affect how Direct Loans are disbursed for students enrolled less than full-time.

Students attending part-time may receive a reduced Direct Loan disbursement based on their enrollment status. Federal regulations may require loans to be prorated or adjusted according to the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled.

As a result, students enrolled less than full-time (11 credits or less) may experience:

  • Lower Direct Loan disbursement amounts than students enrolled full-time.
  • Changes to anticipated financial aid if enrollment is reduced before or after funds are disbursed.
  • An increased balance that may need to be covered through other financial resources, payment plans, or out-of-pocket payments.

Students are encouraged to enroll in the number of credit hours needed to meet their educational goals while understanding that enrollment status can directly impact federal financial aid eligibility and loan amounts.

The College will calculate all Direct Loan eligibility and disbursements in accordance with current federal regulations and guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Education.

Questions? Students with questions about how enrollment status may affect their financial aid should contact the Financial Aid Office before making changes to their schedule.

Important: Federal financial aid regulations are subject to change. Loan eligibility, disbursement amounts, and enrollment requirements are determined under applicable federal law and U.S. Department of Education guidance in effect at the time of disbursement.

Don’t Forget Constitution Day!

A provision in Section 111 of Division J of Pub. L. 108-447, the “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005,” Dec. 8, 2004; 118 Stat. 2809, 3344-45, requires “educational institutions” that receive Federal funds to hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on or around September 17, “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day,” of each year for the students served by the educational institution.

Because many of our students receive Federal Aid, we would like for them to visit the site below to learn more about the Constitution, our country’s founding document.
