Today, students across Pierce College of Funeral Service are taking part in ICCFA Crematory Operator Certification Training.
Mid-America College of Funeral Service serving as the in-person host and virtual participation making the training available to Pierce students beyond the campus.
The October 13, 2026 training connects funeral service education with specialized professional learning from the International Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Association (ICCFA).
Bringing Professional Training to Pierce Students
Funeral service education prepares students for a profession that combines knowledge, practical skills, and significant responsibilities to the families and communities they will serve. Opportunities such as today’s training allow students to explore an important area of the profession while continuing their college education.
ICCFA’s Crematory Operator Certification program provides extensive education related to crematory operations. The curriculum includes professional terminology, principles of combustion, cremation and the environment, equipment operation, general maintenance and troubleshooting, forms and record keeping, and handling and exposure control.
Hosted at Mid-America, Available Across Pierce
Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is hosting the in-person portion of today’s training, but the opportunity extends beyond a single campus.
Virtual participation makes it possible for Pierce students outside the Mid-America campus to take part as well. It creates a shared educational experience for students across Pierce College of Funeral Service while giving those at Mid-America the opportunity to participate together in person.
Pierce College of Funeral Service brings together Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, and Mid-America College of Funeral Service. Experiences like today’s training provide another opportunity to connect students across those schools through a common focus on funeral service education.
What Does Crematory Operator Training Cover?
Crematory operation involves more than learning how equipment works. ICCFA’s certification curriculum addresses several areas professionals may encounter when working with cremation, including terminology, combustion principles, environmental considerations, equipment operation, maintenance, documentation, record keeping, and exposure control.
The program provides students with an opportunity to expand their understanding of this specialized area of funeral service and see how different aspects of crematory operation fit together.
Connecting the Classroom With the Profession
Professional learning opportunities can help students make connections between their college education and the responsibilities they may encounter during their careers.
Today’s ICCFA training gives Pierce students an opportunity to learn more about crematory operations while engaging with material developed specifically for the funeral service profession.
For students still discovering where their interests may lead within funeral service, experiences like this can also provide exposure to an area of the profession they may choose to explore further.
One Learning Experience Across Multiple Campuses
Although today’s in-person training is being hosted at Mid-America College of Funeral Service, the virtual option expands the experience beyond Jeffersonville.
Students do not have to be in the same physical classroom to share a professional learning experience. By combining an on-campus host with virtual access, students across Pierce can engage with the same training and subject matter.
That shared experience reflects a larger part of funeral service education: preparing students to enter a profession in which continued learning and professional development can remain important throughout their careers.
Building Knowledge for the Profession Ahead
Today’s ICCFA Crematory Operator Certification Training offers Pierce students another opportunity to expand their knowledge and connect their education with the funeral service profession.
From students gathered at Mid-America College of Funeral Service to those participating virtually, the training brings the Pierce community together around a shared goal: continuing to learn and prepare for meaningful careers serving families and communities.
