Embalmer
State licensed embalmer. Embalmers prepare deceased people for burial, cremation, or funeral services.
Their responsibilities include:
Preserving: Removing blood from the body and replacing it with embalming fluid or gasses to preserve the remains
Sanitizing: Cleaning and disinfecting the areas where bodies are prepared and embalmed
Restoring: Performing cosmetic and restorative work on the body, such as closing eyes with glue or plastic caps, securing the jaw with wires or sewing, and positioning the mouth
Dressing: Putting the body in a casket and dressing it for viewings
Maintaining: Inspecting and maintaining embalming equipment and supplies, and ordering and inventorying new supplies
Record keeping: Updating records of all procedures and treatments
Assisting: Helping with funeral services and visitations, and supervising other funeral home staff
